Supported by Ontario Certified Teachers

PPZ3C is the Grade 11 College-preparation health course. Students examine the factors that influence their own health and wellness — physical activity, nutrition, mental health, relationships — and explore how communities and public policy shape health outcomes, building skills for lifelong wellbeing.

No. PPZ3C has no prerequisite, so any student can enrol. It’s a practical, personally relevant credit that fits well alongside heavier academic courses.

PPZ3C meets the Ministry of Education’s attendance and participation expectations through activities blended directly into the course. OES requires students to log in at least once per week for attendance, and participation activities appear throughout the course and are reflected in the grade book — preserving self-paced flexibility while satisfying the requirements for online courses.

In PPZ3C you learn evidence-based approaches to personal wellness: physical activity and fitness planning, nutrition fundamentals, mental health and stress management, healthy relationships, and how community programs and public policy influence population health.

PPZ3C supports college programs in health, fitness, recreation, community services, and related fields, and it complements Grade 12 courses like PSK4U (Kinesiology) and HFA4U (Nutrition and Health) at OES for students building a health-focused senior timetable.

Yes. PPZ3C’s core content — managing fitness, nutrition, stress, and relationships — applies to every student’s life. It also rounds out a timetable with a College-level credit while building health literacy that pays dividends regardless of career direction.

Yes. Many students take one or two OES courses alongside their regular day school to free up a timetable, resolve a conflict, or work ahead. OES notifies your day school and your PPZ3C mark is added to your Ontario Student Transcript. The course is self-paced with year-round registration, so it fits around your existing schedule.

Yes. Ontario students who started Grade 9 in the 2020–21 school year or later must earn at least two online learning credits to graduate, and PPZ3C at OES — a Ministry-inspected online school (BSID #667186) — counts toward that requirement. An opt-out process exists through school boards, and specific provisions apply to students affected by the 2021 school closures.

Ontario’s Growing Success policy pre-determines the evaluation structure for every credit. Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, PPZ3C is graded on classroom work completed throughout the course (65%) plus a Ministry-mandated final evaluation worth 25% for Grades 11–12, with attendance and participation also reflected in the final grade. A credit is granted at 50% or higher — and as an inspected private school, OES may administer final evaluations online, while school-board online courses generally require in-person exam sittings.
