ENG3U is the Grade 11 University-preparation English course. Students develop oral communication, reading, writing, and media-literacy skills through the study of literary texts — novels, drama (often Shakespeare), poetry — and informational texts, with an emphasis on analytical essay writing. ENG3U is the prerequisite for ENG4U.

ENG3U meets the Ministry of Education’s attendance and participation expectations through activities blended directly into the course. Ontario’s Growing Success policy pre-determines the evaluation structure for every credit.
