BEP2O, Launching and Leading a Business Course, Grade 10, Open

BEP2O is the Grade 10 Open-level business course where students learn what it takes to plan, launch, and lead a business. Students explore entrepreneurship, business fundamentals, decision-making, and leadership, and apply their learning by developing their own business idea from concept toward a plan.

No. BEP2O is an Open Grade 10 course with no prerequisite, so any student can enrol. It follows naturally from BEM1O (Grade 9 Entrepreneurial Mindset) but does not require it — BEP2O works as a first business credit too.

In BEP2O you learn how businesses are planned, launched, and led: identifying opportunities, understanding customers, basic finance and budgeting concepts, marketing fundamentals, and the leadership and teamwork skills entrepreneurs rely on. You apply it all by developing a business idea of your own.

BEP2O meets the Ministry of Education’s attendance and participation expectations through activities blended directly into the course. OES requires students to log in at least once per week for attendance, and participation activities appear throughout the course and are reflected in the grade book — preserving self-paced flexibility while satisfying the requirements for online courses.

BEP2O belongs to the business studies group, one of Ontario’s STEM-related course groups — business studies, computer studies, cooperative education, mathematics, science, and technological education. Students entering Grade 9 in 2024 or later must complete one credit from this group among their compulsory credits, and earning BEP2O at OES satisfies that graduation requirement.

Yes. BEP2O builds the foundation for Grade 11 and 12 business courses at OES such as Marketing (BMI3C), Financial Accounting (BAF3M), Business Leadership (BOH4M), and International Business (BBB4M) — a strong pathway for students considering commerce or business programs after high school.

Yes. Many students take one or two OES courses alongside their regular day school to free up a timetable, resolve a conflict, or work ahead. OES notifies your day school and your BEP2O mark is added to your Ontario Student Transcript. The course is self-paced with year-round registration, so it fits around your existing schedule.

Yes. Ontario students who started Grade 9 in the 2020–21 school year or later must earn at least two online learning credits to graduate, and BEP2O at OES — a Ministry-inspected online school (BSID #667186) — counts toward that requirement. An opt-out process exists through school boards, and specific provisions apply to students affected by the 2021 school closures.

Ontario’s Growing Success policy pre-determines the evaluation structure for every credit. Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, BEP2O is graded on classroom work completed throughout the course (65%) plus a Ministry-mandated final evaluation worth 20% for Grades 9–10, with attendance and participation also reflected in the final grade. A credit is granted at 50% or higher — and as an inspected private school, OES may administer final evaluations online, while school-board online courses generally require in-person exam sittings.
