AVI3M online course enables students to further develop their knowledge and skills in visual arts. Students in AVI3M will use the creative process to explore a wide range of themes through studio work that may include drawing, painting, sculpting, and printmaking, as well as the creation of collage, multimedia works, and works using emerging technologies. Students will use the critical analysis process when evaluating their own work and the work of others. AVI3M online course may be delivered as a comprehensive program or through a program focused on a particular art form (e.g., photography, video, computer graphics, information design).
Course curriculum
Inside %course-code%: studio practice, one medium at a time
The step before AVI4M
Grade 11 is where the creative process and critical analysis process become habits. AVI3M is the prerequisite for AVI4M, and the portfolio you start here carries into Grade 12 and post-secondary applications.
Four studio pieces, four media
A landscape painting, a figure drawing, a nature sculpture and a mixed-media work, each preceded by sketchbook planning and followed by a written reflection and a conversation with your teacher.
Look at art the way artists do
The elements and principles of design, correct terminology, and the critical analysis process applied to your own work and to artists from different cultures and periods.
A portfolio, not just a mark
Unit 5 is a final piece, a professional portfolio documenting your growth, and a written reflection and oral interview: the culminating task worth 15% of the grade, alongside a 10% written exam.
