GLC2O – Grade 10 Career Studies (0.5 credit) Online Course (Ontario)

GLC2O is Ontario’s compulsory Grade 10 career studies course. Students develop the skills, knowledge, and habits for education and career/life planning — exploring global work trends, transferable skills, and post-secondary options including apprenticeship, college, university, and community living — and build a plan connecting their interests to their future.

Yes. GLC2O is a 0.5-credit, 55-hour course and is compulsory for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. It pairs naturally with Civics (CHV2O), the other required half credit — together they make one full credit and clear two graduation requirements.

Because GLC2O is a 55-hour half-credit course, motivated students can finish it in as little as 2 to 4 weeks at OES. It’s fully self-paced with year-round registration, so many students complete it during a summer, a break, or alongside their regular timetable.

GLC2O meets the Ministry of Education’s attendance and participation expectations through activities blended directly into the course. OES requires students to log in at least once per week for attendance, and participation activities appear throughout the course and are reflected in the grade book — preserving self-paced flexibility while satisfying the requirements for online courses.

In GLC2O you assess your own interests, strengths, and skills; explore how the world of work is changing; research post-secondary pathways including apprenticeship, college, university, and direct-to-work options; and create a career/life plan with concrete next steps, including a resume and education plan.

Many students do. Both are compulsory 55-hour half credits, so completing them together clears two graduation requirements and earns one full credit. Enrolling in both at OES also makes an efficient combination and qualifies for OES’s multi-course discount.

Yes. Many students take GLC2O at OES to raise a mark for university or college applications — Ontario uses your highest grade for the course. The course is self-paced and open year-round, so you can retake it alongside your day-school timetable and finish in as little as 4 weeks.

Yes. Ontario students who started Grade 9 in the 2020–21 school year or later must earn at least two online learning credits to graduate, and GLC2O at OES — a Ministry-inspected online school (BSID #667186) — counts toward that requirement. An opt-out process exists through school boards, and specific provisions apply to students affected by the 2021 school closures.

Yes. OES’s GLC2O has been updated to meet the financial literacy graduation requirement. Students complete financial literacy modules delivered within the Grade 10 Career Studies course and must earn at least 70% on those modules, which make up 5% of the final GLC2O mark. Students have two attempts to complete the requirement.

Ontario’s Growing Success policy pre-determines the evaluation structure for every credit. Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, GLC2O is graded on classroom work completed throughout the course (65%) plus a Ministry-mandated final evaluation worth 20% for Grades 9–10, with attendance and participation also reflected in the final grade. A credit is granted at 50% or higher — and as an inspected private school, OES may administer final evaluations online, while school-board online courses generally require in-person exam sittings.
