This MCT4C course enables students to extend their knowledge of functions. Students will investigate and apply properties of polynomial, exponential, and trigonometric functions; continue to represent functions numerically, graphically, and algebraically; develop facility in simplifying expressions and solving equations; and solve problems that address applications of algebra, trigonometry, vectors, and geometry. Students will reason mathematically and communicate their thinking as they solve multi-step problems. This MCT4C course prepares students for a variety of college technology programs.

MCT4C is the Grade 12 College-preparation math course for technology-oriented programs. Students extend function skills — polynomial, exponential, and trigonometric — and apply mathematics to technical contexts, preparing for college programs in engineering technology, computer technology, and the skilled trades.
The prerequisite for MCT4C is MCF3M (Functions and Applications, Grade 11) or MCR3U (Functions, Grade 11 University).
MCT4C is the preferred math for college engineering technology, electronics, computer technology, and many advanced trades programs — anywhere the program’s math load is heavier than general college math. MAP4C suits general programs; MCT4C suits technical ones.
Yes — this matters: MCT4C is an accepted prerequisite for MHF4U (Advanced Functions). Students who took MCF3M in Grade 11 can route MCF3M → MCT4C → MHF4U if their plans shift toward university programs requiring Advanced Functions. It’s the pathway that reopens the university math door.
MCT4C meets the Ministry of Education’s attendance and participation expectations through activities blended directly into the course. OES requires students to log in at least once per week for attendance, and participation activities appear throughout the course and are reflected in the grade book — preserving self-paced flexibility while satisfying the requirements for online courses.
MCT4C covers polynomial and exponential functions, trigonometric functions and their applications, and applying mathematical processes to technological problems — including measurement and geometry in technical contexts — the math backbone of college technology programs.
Yes. Many students take MCT4C at OES to raise a mark for university or college applications — Ontario uses your highest grade for the course. The course is self-paced and open year-round, so you can retake it alongside your day-school timetable and finish in as little as 4 weeks.
Yes. Ontario students who started Grade 9 in the 2020–21 school year or later must earn at least two online learning credits to graduate, and MCT4C at OES — a Ministry-inspected online school (BSID #667186) — counts toward that requirement. An opt-out process exists through school boards, and specific provisions apply to students affected by the 2021 school closures.
Yes — mathematics is one of Ontario’s STEM-related course groups (business studies, computer studies, cooperative education, mathematics, science, and technological education), from which students entering Grade 9 in 2024 or later must complete one credit. For math and science, the credit counts when earned in addition to your compulsory math and science credits, so MCT4C can double as your STEM-group credit.
Ontario’s Growing Success policy pre-determines the evaluation structure for every credit. Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, MCT4C is graded on classroom work completed throughout the course (65%) plus a Ministry-mandated final evaluation worth 25% for Grades 11–12, with attendance and participation also reflected in the final grade. A credit is granted at 50% or higher — and as an inspected private school, OES may administer final evaluations online, while school-board online courses generally require in-person exam sittings.

The prerequisite course I needed for nursing school was super easy to learn.
Brianna Logan
I had a great experience using OES for a prerequisite course I needed to attend nursing school. I found it super easy to learn and use the LMS. I highly recommend and if I need U level courses in the future I will definitely get them through OES.
I can pick and choose when I want to work.
Hakan Leonard
Great course, I’ve learned lots and got my necessary credits for college now. I love how I can pick and choose when I want to work and decide when my deadlines are since that’s the most stressful part of traditional schooling for me.
