Supported by Ontario Certified Teachers
ALC1O/2O is an Open-level Integrated Arts course that combines two or more art forms — such as dance, drama, music, media arts, and visual arts — into one creative program. Students explore how the arts connect, create their own integrated works, and complete a culminating project. It runs as ALC1O (Grade 9) and ALC2O (Grade 10).
Yes. The Ontario Secondary School Diploma requires one credit in the Arts, and ALC1O/2O satisfies that compulsory Arts requirement. As an Open course with no prerequisite, it suits every student and is a popular way to complete the Arts credit online without prior arts experience.
In ALC1O/2O you combine two or more art forms — dance, drama, music, media arts, and visual arts — to plan, create, and present integrated artworks. You build creative and technical skills, reflect on your process, and complete a culminating project, all submitted digitally through interactive online activities.
ALC1O/2O meets the Ministry of Education’s attendance and participation expectations through activities blended directly into the course. OES requires students to log in at least once per week for attendance, and participation activities appear throughout the course and are reflected in the grade book — preserving self-paced flexibility while satisfying the requirements for online courses.
No prior arts experience is required. ALC1O/2O is an Open course designed for beginners and experienced students alike, and all coursework is submitted digitally through interactive online submissions, so you do not need a studio or special equipment to succeed.
Both. The same course is offered as ALC1O at the Grade 9 level and ALC2O at the Grade 10 level, and you earn one Arts credit either way. Both are Open level with no prerequisite — choose the grade that fits the credits you still need.
Yes. Students take ALC1O/2O at OES to earn the credit alongside their day school, to get ahead, or to fit it around a busy schedule. It’s self-paced and open year-round, so you can start any day and finish in as little as 4 weeks or take up to 12 months.
Yes. Ontario students who started Grade 9 in the 2020–21 school year or later must earn at least two online learning credits to graduate, and ALC1O/2O at OES — a Ministry-inspected online school (BSID #667186) — counts toward that requirement. An opt-out process exists through school boards, and specific provisions apply to students affected by the 2021 school closures.
Ontario’s Growing Success policy pre-determines the evaluation structure for every credit. Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, ALC1O/2O is graded on classroom work completed throughout the course (65%) plus a Ministry-mandated final evaluation worth 20% for Grades 9–10, with attendance and participation also reflected in the final grade. A credit is granted at 50% or higher — and as an inspected private school, OES may administer final evaluations online, while school-board online courses generally require in-person exam sittings.

I had a great experience using OES for a prerequisite course I needed to attend nursing school. I found it super easy to learn and use the LMS. I highly recommend and if I need U level courses in the future I will definitely get them through OES.
I can pick and choose when I want to work.
Hakan Leonard
Great course, I’ve learned lots and got my necessary credits for college now. I love how I can pick and choose when I want to work and decide when my deadlines are since that’s the most stressful part of traditional schooling for me.
