Overview | Quebec Pre-University

Many students in Quebec are looking for alternatives to Cegep in their pursuit of higher education. This may be as a result of Bill 96 and the French language requirements, a desire to fast-track, or a need for more flexibility and options. The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is a program for those interested in bypassing Cégep* in order to gain opportunities all over the world. Students can complete their studies in one year and use it to attend university in Canada or with any NCAA school in the US. The credits and diploma they earn here are nationally and internationally recognized.

*While many French post-secondary institutions in Quebec (UQO, UQAM, UQAQ and UQAR) require Cégep or a bachelor degree for admission to programs, Anglophone Universities in Quebec do accept an Ontario High School Diploma. Please contact the University’s Admissions Office for details.

Our Academic Advisors and counseling team can provide guidance for a smooth transition into the Ontario education system. The team can provide social-emotional support, assistance with accommodations, as well as various academic counseling services. Students will also receive help from our excellent instructors and live 24/7 on-demand tutors that can help guide them throughout their studies.

As long as a Quebec resident is 16 years old by the month of July preceding the start of grade 12 in Ontario, they do not need to register as homeschoolers with the DEM (Direction de l’enseignement à la maison). We still offer support for our older students who are looking for an individualized pace and schedule.

Quebec students may take OES high school courses in order to earn their grade 12 diploma with us as full-time or part-time students. This allows them to work around their schedule and meet course requirements where and when they want.

Step 1: Share your required documents (transcript/ report cards) which show the completion of Secondary V and complete OES entrance tests. These will then be assessed and the credits will be granted in the Ontario system.

Step 2: Meet with our Academic Advising team to review the results of your assessment and select your remaining classes to meet the OSSD requirements and post-secondary admission requirements.

Step 3: Choose your own pathway to meet the remaining requirements. Complete the required courses (~7 U/M and Ontario Literacy Course), 40 hours of community involvement and receive your Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)!
