OLC4O Online: Your After-Test Solution
As you probably know, before you can graduate with your high school diploma (OSSD), one of the many requirements is that you can demonstrate competence in the provincial secondary school literacy requirement.
One way to do that is by taking the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). It’s typically written in Grade 10, and its intended purpose is for students to show that they can meet that requirement. But, what happens if you write the test and you don’t get the 75% required to pass?
First of all, don’t let it get you down! It might just be that you are not a great test taker. It seems Einstein didn’t like them much either—in fact, in a document titled “The Nightmare”, his nightmare was the German high school final exams. You’re in good company!
But,even if it turns out that there’s some material you haven’t mastered yet, there is a great alternative.
Enter OLC4O: the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC)
OLC4O is a grade 12 online open level course, offered exclusively to students who have been eligible to write the OSSLT at least twice and who have been unsuccessful at least once.
The course has been designed to help you acquire and demonstrate the cross-curricular literacy skills that are evaluated by the OSSLT. When you complete the course successfully, you will meet the provincial secondary school literacy requirement for your high school diploma.
In other words, taking the course means no more “nightmare”!

If you took the test in March, it was scored in April and you will receive your results shortly, if you haven’t already.
It’s also the end of the school year and summer is on your horizon. That could mean a summer job, a trip, or a variety of many activities that you have planned. You will be busy.
But, if you were not successful with the test and you want to complete your high school diploma this year, you might be wondering: “Will I have to change all of my plans to sit in a hot and stuffy classroom in July?”
In short: “No!”
With OES, you can take OLC4O in our online classroom and complete the requirements from the comfort of your own home. And, to help you keep that job and take that trip, our courses are asynchronous, which means you can work on your own schedule, at your own pace.
You can also get additional support during the course through on-demand access to an online tutoring service, FREE for all of our students.
So, remember …
- You can still meet the provincial literacy requirement and graduate with your Ontario high school diploma this year, AND
- You can still take that great summer job or go on that trip you’ve been planning for months … or both!
Start by visiting our OLC4O course outline to learn more about it. Then, if you like what you see, sign up and take advantage of our summer sale that offers $50 off on all Grade 12 online elective courses.
