In short: coursework still matters most, but a written final exam (for Grades 11–12) or final evaluation (for Grades 9–10) now carries real weight, and consistent participation counts too.

There’s one more change that catches many families by surprise. Starting in 2026–27, students taking Grade 10 Career Studies (GLC2O) must also complete a new Financial Literacy graduation requirement. 

To meet it, students need to achieve 70% or higher on a financial literacy assessment, which counts for 5% of the final Career Studies mark. It’s designed to make sure every Ontario graduate leaves high school with practical money skills such as budgeting, saving, and understanding credit. At OES, this is guided step-by-step as part of the Career Studies course, so no student has to navigate it alone.
