With the world changed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the way we interact with other people is changing dramatically. It has not only changed how we buy groceries or visit with friends and family, but also how we work and how we learn.
Schools in Ontario will not be opening again this year, and it’s still unknown what they will look like at the start of the new school year in September. Irregardless, credits still need to be earned, and content still needs to be learned.
Primary summer schools, for one, are likely to be closed this summer or offer only very sparse pilot programs. For many school boards, including those in the GTA where TDSB summer school will possibly not be running and likely not in-person, this means students will have that much harder of a time earning much-needed credits to apply to post secondary. The good news is that, with summer school, these credits are within your reach.
Whether you are looking to get ahead or catch up this summer or need to earn an Ontario high school credit, summer school with OES may be the solution you are looking for.
OES is here to help you reach your academic and personal goals. Students enrol with us to upgrade their marks, meet university or college admission requirements, retake failed courses, or work ahead for the following school year.
Summer is usually a busy time, and you can register for OES courses anytime and anywhere to learn at your own pace.
How Does Summer School Work
Summer school in Ontario is more than just taking classes during summer vacation. It’s a means for more flexible and focused learning.
Students participate in summer classes for several reasons, whether that be to obtain a higher letter grade, participate in an academic program, to get ahead, or for personal purposes.
At OES, summer school is conducted entirely online through Ministry-approved classes to help students achieve their academic and personal goals in the comfort of their own homes.
Why Take a Summer School Course in Ontario?
Keep Up With Needed Credits
As a result of school closures due to COVID-19, many students were not able to retain the content or credits needed to progress.
Although credits have been made available through several of the revised Ministry of Education guidelines that deal with the pandemic, this challenging time has undoubtedly reduced the amount of content and learning students were able to complete this year.
Many students register through OES to improve a mark in a course they’ve already taken. Why not take advantage of the fact that school’s out for the summer and upgrade that mark, or get credit ahead of schedule?
Upgrade Your Marks
At OES, we offer upgrades for several high school courses intended for students who wish to improve their grades in classes they have completed successfully and earned a credit for.
These courses contain similar content to that previously studied and result in students earning the same credits they originally achieved. In this case, the higher of the two grades will appear on the student’s transcript. Upgraded courses have a condensed assessment workload with fewer or shorter assessments, which allow students to progress through the course faster.
To be eligible to register for an upgrade course, the student must have completed the same course within the past 12 months, earning a final grade of at least 50%. A student who registers for an upgrade course must send a copy of their final report card, transcript, or credit counselling summary sheet to OES as proof of their successful completion of the course in the past 12 months.
Retake a Failed Course
Some students enrol with OES to earn a high school credit course online, in which they were previously unsuccessful. With our supportive Ontario Certified Teachers and 24/7 online tutoring service, we will do our best to help you succeed. Our teachers will work with you to ensure you understand the content and can pass our courses with confidence.
Not only does taking a summer school course online give you the chance to retake a failed course, but it opens up the opportunity to make that subject your primary focus. We know it’s summer, so you’re likely not taking a full course load, and if you are, great! But, allowing yourself to focus on one or two subjects only throughout the summer reduces the pressure of all the other courses you may have on the go.
When you take an online summer school course, you can focus on the subjects you find more challenging to learn during the summer. This also allows you to reduce your course load in future semesters and fast-track your schooling.
Fast Track Your Schooling
Perhaps you want to get ahead of the next school year? Students often take our Ontario summer school courses to free up their timetables for the upcoming academic year. This can help you avoid timetable conflicts in both your school work and extracurriculars, or it can allow you to take a reduced course load so you can focus on fewer subjects and potentially boost your grades.
We often hear of students who have taken a summer school online credit to take one less course in their final semester so that they can focus on the end of the year school play or the upcoming football season.
Our online summer school courses in Ontario allow you to learn and earn credits at your own pace. We know that you may also have a summer job or other summer plans, so being able to earn your Ontario high school credits online and quickly is important!
If you need to complete a course in a short period, you have that option. For example, courses offered through OES can be completed in as little as three weeks! If you need more time for your learning, that’s ok too.
Explore A New Subject Area
Taking an online summer school course in Ontario opens significant opportunities to learn new subject matter, as you can explore subject areas you’ve never considered before.
Often, students who are focused on science may take a humanities or English course over the summer. This allows them to focus their time on completing the required readings rather than juggling them alongside their science coursework.
We have also seen many students take summer school online courses because more options are available online than in a physical school. Some schools can only offer standardized courses due to several factors such as class size allotment or teachers that can be considered subject matter experts.
Online schools have more flexibility on the instructors they can hire as they aren’t constrained to one physical city or location. Therefore, we can offer courses such as CLN4U- Grade 12 Canadian and International Law or more challenging math courses such as MCV4U – Calculus and Vectors. We can offer these courses with certified teachers from all over the province to ensure you’re getting taught by experts in these subjects.
How Long is Summer School in Ontario?
Ontario’s summer school courses are typically four weeks long and run for approximately half of the typical school day. In that time, a significant amount of content is combined to accommodate the shortened schedule.
OES offers students more flexibility with our e-learning modules as, once registered, students can complete the coursework at their own pace. We provide 24/7 online tutoring services to help students make the most of their virtual summer school experience.
Why Choose OES Online Summer School Courses?
We Know the Challenges of Online Learning
E-Learning is often scary for people who have never tried it before. After all, online learning is new for many people, and sometimes the hardest thing to do is simply taking the leap and trying something new.
Think of it this way – often in a classroom, we read textbooks, watch video tutorials and use other forms of self-directed learning. These are all different mediums we use in our summer school online courses.
Maybe you need to upgrade MCR3U? Perhaps you’ve had some challenges learning chemistry and need a new format of SCH4U? There is often more pressure with other courses in your physical school and extracurricular activities during the school year, and online summer school with OES creates an excellent opportunity to try a course or two if you’ve never tried to learn virtually.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario Ministry of Education has pivoted to mandatory online learning. Many colleges and universities throughout Canada are resuming classes online in the fall, and taking summer school classes online creates that opportunity to learn at your own pace, and also sets you up for online schooling success in the coming years.
We Offer Free 24/7 Tutoring
We understand that some courses can be more challenging than others. Taking a course with OES gives you access to experienced Ontario College of Teachers certified instructors who are available to answer questions, provide feedback, and grade assessments promptly.
Your OES teacher should be the first person you contact with any questions or concerns about your course or course content. However, if you require additional support, please note we offer a 24/7 tutoring service that is unlimited and can help you as well.
At OES, we offer tutoring services that are provided by a third party known as GradeSlam. Students enrolled in an OES course have free access to tutoring via OES’s learning platform. The service is online, unlimited, on-demand, and instantly available 24/7 for most subject areas. GrandSlam includes features such as live essay editing and support in English and French. Their tutors are proficient in all subject areas offered through OES.
We Have Flexible Schedules
Online summer school courses in Ontario offer you options for where and when you learn. You won’t have to commute from one place to another or follow a strict schedule. The virtual classroom is available anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection. So, if you’re travelling overseas or at a family cottage for the summer, you can still learn from the dock. If you have a summer job that requires you to go away from home, you can keep learning. There’s no reason to give up on working or studying while exploring new places or relaxing at familiar ones.
OES incorporates flexibility into our students’ learning. Our courses are structured to allow you to direct your learning so you can take a course at night, in the early morning or during the day. There are times when you will need to be available for student and teacher conferences or take a test or an exam, but these are arranged in advance with your teacher. Online education enables you to study or teach from anywhere in the world.
OES Was Built For E-Learning
OES was purposely built to be a virtual high school. Our instructors are experienced in teaching students online, and our courses are structured clearly and concisely to make it easier for you to guide your learning.
